On Saturday, we were blessed to welcome the newly ordained Fr Mawdsley FSSP to the parish to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. This liturgy was part of his schedule of “First Masses” which is taking him around the U.K.
Fr Mawdsley was joined by Fr Emerson FSSP and our own parish priest Fr Morris in offering a Solemn High Mass. We also welcomed two visiting servers.
In addition to the beautiful chant of the Mass, the Schola sang the Missa Aeterna Christi Munera by Palestrina. Sicut Cervus by Palestrina was the offertory motet and Byrd’s Ave Verum Corpus was the communion motet.
Mass was followed by the beautiful tradition of “first blessings”. Fr Mawdsley gave each individual a blessing which invoked their patron saints, as the schola sang the Te Deum.
Never to be outdone in hospitality, some of the ladies from the parish provided a buffet lunch in the hall after Mass and we shared a time of fellowship together. Presentations were made to Fr Mawdsley by Fred Stone, the Chairman of Una Voce Scotland and by Fr Morris on behalf of Immaculate Heart Parish.
What a joy to witness the blessings and growth that God is bringing about through the celebration of the perennial liturgy of the Church.
