Parish Food Store

The Parish Food Store has food available for those who need a helping hand, and provides food for many individuals and families in Balornock and Springburn. Contact Fr. Morris if you know of someone in need.

The food store is currently in need of donations. Here is a list (adapted from this site) to help you:

Shopping List

Essential food items which can be eaten cold, or made up with boiling water from a kettle, for example:

  • Instant mashed potato
  • Pasta, rice, couscous and instant noodles (1-2kg bags are best)
  • Tea and instant coffee
  • Cereal
  • Jam
  • Sugar
  • Longlife milk (UHT)
  • Longlife fruit juice

Tinned items that can be heated and used to make up a meal:

  • Tinned meat and fish, such as canned tuna or frankfurter sausages
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Tinned pulses, such as lentils or beans
  • Tinned tomatoes
  • Tinned pies (e.g. Fray Bentos or Princes’ Steak and Kidney)
  • Tinned desserts, such as sponge puddings and rice pudding

Flavourings and cooking essentials help to bring plain meals to life, and are inexpensive:

  • Cooking oil
  • Mustard
  • Salt and pepper
  • Stock cubes
  • Herbs and spices
  • Tomato puree

Children’s lunchbox items, such as:

  • Cereal bars
  • Dried fruit, such as raisins, dried apricots
  • Cartons of juice

BOGOF! If you see a “buy one, get one free” offer in the supermarket, why not choose that item instead of your usual brand, and give the free one to the food store? As long as it’s a longlife item, it can probably be used.
