Missa Cantata – Feast of the Annunciation 2017

Before the Church moved into Passiontide, we had the joy of celebrating the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Here at Immaculate Heart, we celebrated with a Missa Cantata, a service which is gaining popularity as indicated by our growing numbers at Sung Traditional Latin Masses.

Here is a recording of the offertory motet that was sung by the schola- ‘Dixit Maria’ by Has Leo Hassler. The words are from the gospel for the Mass of the Annunciation as can be seen in the video.

Una Voce Scotland Requiem Mass

On Saturday, Immaculate Heart hosted the Una Voce Scotland annual Requiem Mass and AGM.

The Solemn High Requiem Mass was offered by Fr Ninian Doohan, with Fr John Emerson FSSP as Deacon and Fr Mark Morris as Sub-Deacon. Fr Stephen Dunn and Fr Liam O’ Connor also attended the Mass in choir. The schola sang the requiem chants and Byrd’s Justorum Animae as the communion motet.

After the Mass, the Una Voce Scotland AGM was held in the parish hall. Fr Emerson gave a detailed account of the rising number of vocations in the SSPX, FFSP and ICKSP around the world, as well as some interesting history on the development of the traditional movement since the Second Vatican Council. Fred Stone, the chairman of Una Voce Scotland, updated members on the recent activity of the group, and displayed the new set of High Mass vestments which Una Voce had commissioned from Di Clara vestments. The vestments can be viewed in more detail here. Fr Ninian Doohan spoke of his own journey to the Traditional Latin Mass and his experiences since his ordination.

Thank you to Sancta Familia Media from Holy Family Mossend, who came to video the service and interview people about what draws them to the Traditional Latin Mass. Thanks also to all those who organised the music and catering for the service. Finally, thank you to all the priests in Scotland who offer the Traditional Latin Mass, for their continued dedication to the traditions of the Church.
